Uncertain Domesticities
The international group exhibition Uncertain Domesticities presented various approaches to and reflections on the subject of home and housing. Its main philosophical foundations were Gaston Bachelard’s theory regarding the importance of emotional ties to a place and a cultural space, plus Judy Chicago and Miriam Schapiro’s feministic project Womanhouse, which was the first to explore women’s stereotypical roles within an institutional setting. The catalogue, edited by one of the exhibition’s organizers Ina Bierstedt, presents works by all 27 participating artists, including their different approaches to what lies hidden behind the concept of “home.”
