Archive 1911 - 2011

The exhibition archive 1911–2011 is an online database of the House of Arts exhibitions from its founding until 2011, enabling easy search by different categories. Currently, the database contains basic information on the exhibitions and allows searching by year and name of the exhibition. In the course of 2021, the database will be supplemented with more detailed information on the exhibitions, and the search will be expanded to include the names of artists, curators and theoreticians. In the following period, pictures from archive materials will be added to individual exhibition entries.

The online exhibition database is the result of a multi-year project launched in 2019; its objective is to comprehensively process the House of Arts exhibitions archive. The archive contains printed matter (invitations, catalogues, posters), photographic documentation of exhibitions and openings, photographs of exhibited works, correspondence, lists of exhibited works, theoretical texts and many other materials. It has been supplemented with missing documents from private and institutional sources, and digitized.

By 2020, over two thousand exhibitions took place in the House of Arts, forming the cultural memory of the institution and testifying to the cultural heritage of the city and its history. The House of Arts has continuously maintained a high quality of its exhibition programme for 110 years, despite the historical social-political changes that restrictively affected the institution’s programme. The entire exhibition archive and individual exhibition files are a unique set of documents that are the subject of research in local history, art history, the work of both outstanding and presently lesser-known personalities (artists and theoreticians) and many other social-cultural historical topics.
