Václav Walach: From socially excluded localities to racialized residential capitalism

Where did socially excluded localities come from? Were they created by the people who live in them, or by structural processes over which their inhabitants have only a little control? In his lecture, Václav Walach will present the current state of thinking about the emergence and development of socio-spatial inequalities in Czech cities and explain why the story of excluded localities is ultimately the story of all of us.

The lecture takes place as an accompanying programme to the international group exhibition Uncertain Domesticities, which seeks to trace the multilayered context of the theme of home while exploring its shifts in meaning over the past decades. Criminologist Václav Walach focuses on issues of security theory and practice, crime and its control, and the position of marginalised groups in society. He works at the Faculty of Social Studies of the University of Ostrava.

The event is organised in cooperation of House of Arts Brno and Tenants' Initiative (INN).
