Things

The group exhibition "Things" lends its title from the eponymous book by French novelist Georges Perec. His literary debut "Things" from 1965 is a story of a young couple whose relationship to the world is constituted by possessing, consuming, shopping and acquiring objects of art, furniture, etc. The heroes are victims of their desire for luxurious life, but belonging to the middle class they do not have sufficient means for that. The book may be understood as a study of the relationship between the things that the society produces and fickle happiness which is derived from the consumer lifestyle. The exhibition looks at everyday things as important constituents of our time: these identical objects which have made their way to many places around the world are the outcome of global economy, something like "global hyper-objects" complementing the atmosphere of our reality.
