Rostislav Čuřík: (Photography)
29. 7. 2026 18:00 – 19:00
House of Arts, Jaroslav Král Gallery
On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., we cordially invite you to the House of Arts for a meeting with photographer Rostislav Čuřík on the occasion of the exhibition (Photography). The exhibition will be presented by the artist and its curator, Terezie Petišková.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The exhibition presents the photographic work of Brno-based artist Rostislav Čuřík, who began his creative career in the early 1980s. It portrays Čuřík as an artist who, even during his student years, created romantic images inspired by ecological themes and Mannerism. He also drew on Surrealism and devoted himself intensively to forays into radical body performance, inspired by the Transavantgarde and Tadeusz Kantor’s “Theater of Death.” Čuřík also served as a documentarian of alternative culture and captured the beginnings of the postmodern theatrical aesthetics of playwright and director Antonín Pitínský. Many of his photographs document the bold and radical performances of his contemporaries at the former Divadlo hudby in Brno. The exhibition offers a wealth of revelatory information about the beginnings of postmodern thinking in the visual arts in Moravia—a topic that still awaits adequate scholarly treatment—as well as brand-new works created specifically for this exhibition.
