The exhibition presents a longitudinal cross-section of the current state of the Secondary School of Art and Design in Brno. However, its final form will be significantly shaped by the students, alumni, and teaching staff themselves. Together, we embark on a journey to explore this unique school’s position within the city of Brno, its place in the context of art education both in the Czech Republic and abroad, and its influence on the cultural life of the region.

How do those who helped shape the school, and those who shape it today, perceive it? How is the school's rich history reflected in its present form?
The exhibition is being developed through studio assignments and the active participation of the school community—not only in its creation, but also in its promotion and documentation. It also offers another important dimension: an opportunity to influence the future of the House of the Lords of Kunštát. One of the assignments focuses on designing and potentially implementing interventions in the courtyard space, including an artistic treatment of the entrance portal. Other tasks aim to create a temporary multifunctional space for meetings, relaxation, and sharing. These projects are being developed by selected studios over the course of the spring semester.

The exhibition is part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the school’s founding. On this occasion, we want to explore the role the school has played—and continues to play—in the lives of its students, graduates, and educators. How has it influenced their professional paths? What does it mean to them to be part of this institution? And what could the school represent in the future?

One of the tools for gathering these insights is a survey developed in collaboration with sociologist Monika Šimková. We are also reaching out to a broad circle of alumni and former members of the teaching staff with an invitation to participate in the exhibition. We would be pleased to offer them space not only to present their artwork but also objects connected to their relationship with the school—whether in the form of written memories, photographs, audio recordings, or other personal contributions.

Our goal is to showcase a wide spectrum of creative approaches and to demonstrate how the school can influence both the artistic work and life paths of each individual in uniquely diverse ways.
