Open Call Brno Artists in Residence & G99 2024 / Your Addiction is the Message

ATTENTION: Due to big number of applies, the results will be announced on 8 November (instead of previously anticipated 31 October). Thank you for your understanding.

G99 gallery & Brno Artists in Residence are inviting you to participate in an Open Call for visual artists, creators or curators of any nationality, gender or age for the collective/solo themed exhibitions and a residency stay in 2024 hosted by the House of Arts Brno, in Brno, Czech Republic.

PROPOSED THEME FOR 2024 IN BAIR AND G99:

The 2024 residency and exhibition program at G99 is envisioned as a series of exhibition projects, events, and residency stays, whose theme will revolve around the exploration of addictions and escape strategies in the context of art. Rather than a negative view of addictions, we approach them as potential forms of information for reflection through artistic practice. What insights could their reflection bring? Following Marshall McLuhan's famous phrase "The medium is the message", we reinterpret it as "Your addiction is the message" and invite artists to reflect on the forms and contents of escapes and addictions.

Through an open call, we welcome diverse and innovative approaches that can directly or indirectly relate to this theme.

As a result of this thematic call will be a series of exhibition projects (whose outcomes will be presented in three separate exhibition terms throughout the year), events, and residency stays (three visual artists, curators or theoreticians will be selected for a two months residency stay between June – July 2023).

The participants in the call may apply for both the exhibition and the residency. We kindly ask you to specify in the subject and body of your email, whether you are applying for the exhibition, the residency or both (you can also specify your priorities).
