Lviv modernist materiality: Unpacking the hybrid objects

We warmly invite you to a lecture by Ukrainian researcher and photographer Myroslava Liakhovych, which will take place on Tuesday, June 24 at 5pm at Kino Art (Cihlářská 19).

Ukrainian researcher and photographer Myroslava Liakhovych will present the results of her long-term research focused primarily on interwar architecture and materiality in Lviv, which—similarly to Brno—forms a significant part of the city's architectural heritage. In her lecture, Myroslava will speak about architecture, but as well as about historical events, personal narratives and how these buildings and their domestic materiality embody both the lost identity of Lviv and a layered record of 100 years.

Myroslava currently lives in Berlin. Having left Ukraine, she held a research position at ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology);, and before that she had worked, among others, at the Center for Urban History of East Central Europe in Lviv. In 2017, she launched the project Lviv. Architecture of Modernism (www.modernism.lviv-online.com), which she continues to expand with new buildings and documentation.

She is currently an artist-in-residence in Brno within the Brno Artists in Residence programme, which—like the Brno Architecture Manual—is part of the House of Arts Brno activities. During her residency, she is working on a new themed trail focusing on modern architecture in Lviv, which will be published on www.architektonickymanual.cz.

The lecture is organized within the Brno Architecture Manual and Brno Artists in Residence programmes of the House of Arts Brno.

Admission is free. The lecture will be held in English and will not be translated.
