1. 5. 2017 – 31. 5. 2017

Jakub Šimčík

The visual artist Jakub Šimčík was born in Ostrava, Czechoslovakia, in 1984, but his family soon immigrated to Sweden. Later, Jakub Šimčík moved to Scotland, where he studied photography at the Glasgow School of Art, and then he settled in Germany, where he studied photography, video and intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig in 2009–2013. He lives and works in Leipzig, and together with Johanna Maxl, he leads the interdisciplinary platform for literature and the arts, Initiative Wort & Bild.

During his stay in Brno, Jakub Šimčík will present an exhibition project dealing with his personal background, combining the history of his family and his experience of being an expat. Jakub Šimčík also intends to explore this topic further – for example, he’d like to visit the Security Services Archives in Kanice u Brna.
