Homo Deus

Homo Deus

The discussion open to the broad public will mainly deal with two topics:
1. How radically can life on the planet be transformed, in the near future, by biotechnologies, biomedicine and gene engineering? Will the mechanism of natural selection become a surpassed phase of human evolution, and will Homo sapiens get transformed into a new species – Homo Deus?
2. What may be the impact of information and communication technologies that have evolved, for the first time in the history of humankind, into a globally interconnected network, and get connected with things into new structures? Will they contribute to the unification of humankind, or create insurmountable gaps and barriers? Is it possible to reduce the forms of life into algorithms and data flows? Do social communication networks know us better than we ourselves do? We will also be interested in how these changes are reflected in contemporary art.
Among the invited guests there will be Petr Dvořák, vice-rector of the Masaryk University and specialist in molecular biology and genetics, Dimitri Nikitin, architect and artist, and sociologist Tereza Stöckelová. The discussion has been prepared and will be moderated by Milan Kreuzzieger, Centre of Global Studies (Institute of Philosophy, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic).
Accompanying programme of BIG LIGHT and In a Landscape projects.
