Circuit bonding / Hacking electronic toy pianos

Circuit bending is an explorative and playful technique that can be used to intuitively and haptically modify the electronic circuitry of a musical instrument, thus enriching its sonic palette and means of player expression. Toy pianos are most commonly used for this purpose because of their affordability and electronic safety, as they operate on low-current batteries. In a series of four workshops, we will learn the most basic principles of circuit bending and electronic circuitry, then modify the instruments with additional electronic components, and finally use our prepped pianos for a collaborative improvised musical performance.

This workshop is ideal for parents with children as it combines spontaneous playfulness and technical skill. It also allows parents and children to share a mutually fulfilling creative and educational experience.

The workshop will be led by Michal Mitro.

The workshop is intended for children aged 3 and up. Maximum capacity is 8 children. The sessions will take place two Saturdays in a row (always morning + afternoon session).

The workshop fee is 270 CZK.

The event will take place in the Studio in the House of Arts. The space will be transformed into a large toy shop where everyone should feel playful and safe.

If you are interested in participating, please fill out this form.

We need to know some basic information in advance to make the workshop as smooth and comfortable as possible. This form will also confirm your participation so we can count on you. We will send you more detailed information by email during November.
