Cailean Finn: The Garden

The exhibition presents two installations by Cailean Finn, a resident of VKB and BAiR in 2025. Here, the author develops the themes of cognition, learning and intelligence. In two projects– kinetic techno-objects, he confronts a typically anthropocentric perspective with an ecological, relational and performative view of other possibilities of life. He thus creates a garden; as a space of communication and coexistence of technology and humans, but also other types of intelligent beings.

CAILEAN FINN
He is an Irish media artist, researcher, and technologist from Waterford, Ireland. His practice investigates the idiosyncratic nature of human–machine relationships, drawing from computational histories and engaging with technologies and practices such as creative coding, artificial intelligence/life, game development, and electronics. Through these inquiries, he reflects on how machines mediate agency, perception, and interaction across digital cultures. His current research explores robotics, artificial intelligence, and their life, with a particular focus on emergent behaviour as a material for interaction. He approaches these themes through experimentation, hacking, and critical reflection, creating works that blend computation, embodiment, and inquiry into human–machine relations.
