Screening
Anna Hawkins: Blue Light Blue / Love / Constellations
7. 7. 2026 18:00 – 19:30
Anna Hawkins, a Canadian-American artist working in the medium of moving image, who is currently at a residency at the Brno Artists in Residence center, will present a showcase of her films in the TIC Gallery, Kino CIT on Tuesday, July 7, at 6 p.m.
Anna Hawkins is an artist working primarily in moving image and installation. For the past decade, her projects have centered around the ways that images, gestures and language are circulated and transformed online. Drawing on references from art history, internet tutorials, fail video compilations, horror films, social media hashtags and astrology, her work examines the effects of technology on daily life while exploring and subverting the aesthetics, conventions and distortions of contemporary image culture.
Recent works include Blue Light Blue (2021), in which the blue light that is emitted from the screens of cellphones, tablets and laptops is cast as the antagonist in a pseudo horror film. Love (2022) extracts images from the Instagram platform–all found under #love– to explore the shapeshifting nature of language on the internet. Constellations, a film in 3 chapters, considers different methods of representation and observation of the cosmos. Drawing a relationship between the cosmos and the internet, Constellations examines how, in the face of that which is vast and unknowable, we look to see a reflection of ourselves.
The event is organized in collaboration with TIC Gallery.
