ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

The exhibition presents two installations by Cailean Finn, a resident of VKB & BAiR in 2025. Here, the author develops the themes of cognition, learning and intelligence. In two projects– kinetic techno-objects, he confronts a typically anthropocentric perspective with an ecological, relational and performative view of other possibilities of life. He thus creates a "garden" as a space of communication and coexistence of technology and humans, but also other types of intelligent beings.

The works of Cailean Finn become elements of an autonomous techno-life that tests the limits of our imagination as well as our capacity to accept other forms of intelligence. This installation of two of his projects, Powercreep and g-OmL, attempts to create a space for the coexistence of computational systems, human and machine logic, and technological autonomy, all of which contain problematic aspects, however, may also suggest future formats of collaboration and more balanced relationships.

Artificial intelligence systems do not operate as isolated entities but are organized as configurations of multiple resources, models, and agents. Autonomous entities coordinate, negotiate, and adapt in relation to one another as well as to their surroundings. This newly emerging and continuously adapting environment represents a shift away from previous computational paradigms based on pre-programmed behavior, toward systems or communities defined by a higher degree of autonomy and their emergent capacities. Their existence may recall concepts of assemblages which, as Katherine Hayles writes, are based on the premise that interconnected artifacts are not isolated entities but exist in an ongoing process of transformation in relation to their environment and use.
