Adéla Zatloukalová: Hatless Gentlemen Welcome You Now and Then

Wall painting on the vault and portal of the House of the Lords of Kunštát from Dominikánská Street, produced in collaboration with second-year students of the Department of Conservation and Restoration of Painting and Decorative Techniques at the Secondary School of Art and Design and the Higher School of Restoration in Brno, under the guidance of instructor Gabriela Sládková: Tereza Bílková, Kristýna Macková, Magdalena Plocková, Rastislav Poprocký, Vojtěch Stejskal, Adéla Sykalová, Dora Šindelová.

The mural on the vault and portal of the House of the Lords of Kunštát, facing Dominikánská Street, was created in 2025 as a temporary realization of a student design for the exhibition Presently – A Cross-section of Brno´s Secondary School of Art and Design. This exhibition was one of two projects organized by the House of Arts to commemorate the centenary of the school’s founding.

Conceived as a broad platform dedicated to current students, teachers, and alumni, the exhibition engaged individual departments in collaborative work on its creation, in line with their respective specializations. One of the assignments for the spatial design disciplines was to develop proposals for furnishings, greenery, and artistic elements for the building’s exterior and inner courtyard, aimed at making the space more welcoming, inhabited, and open to the public.

Adéla Zatloukalová prepared a painting design for the entrance portal and vault from Dominikánská Street. Through a bold, playful, and visually expressive approach, the design highlights the entrance to the artistic institution, invites the public to visit, and transforms a neutral space into a visually engaging and distinctive environment that communicates clearly with its surroundings.
