Agnieszka Mastalerz (PL)

Agnieszka Mastalerz - graduate of the Studio of Spatial Activities led by Professor Mirosław Bałka at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Media Department (2018). She was a visiting student with Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg (2017/2018). She holds a degree in Cultural Studies from the University of Warsaw (2016). Lately Agnieszka has received DAAD scholarship for Foreign Graduates in the Fields of Fine Art for 2019/2020 and she is going to study at HBK Braunschweig in Candice Breitz/Eli Cortiñas' studio.
Agnieszka’s individual focus is mechanisms of control and processes influencing an individual. First work on this subject is a series of photographs and videos „Disciplinary Mechanisms“ (2016) depicting non-violent traps for animals; another one – „Play Down“ (2017)
is a registration of semen collection from a stallion to using it in artificial insemination.
She usually puts herself in the position of an observer, as in „Untitled (Remote Control)“ (2017) — a topographic series of thermograms
eaturing places in Warsaw, where political decisions are being/have
been being made. Her main medium is video and she sometimes works with photography or performance. Agnieszka’s practice is always based on a profound research. She often analyzes archives, as in the video „H (Reconstruction of Position)“ (2018) inspired by 20 photographs taken in 1940s in Neuengamme, Hamburg.
