The House of
the Lords of Kunstat
30 09 - 20 11

Opening 29 09 (2011) 18H

Curator: Dušan Brozman

Markéta Othová and Igor Korpaczewski find a connection in their distinct melancholic view of the world. In spite of the fact that Othová is a photographer and Korpaczewski a painter, their works both employ a cinematic language; existential, romantic, and dramatic narratives in particular, such as those typical of French New Wave cinema. Marginal views of the artist's surroundings are characteristic in Othová's work. Here, Man, although ever-present, does not play any particular role in these depictions of common objects or urban landscapes. Korpaczewski's paintings and painting installations are generally figurative. His works are based on opposites, whether they are between the individual and the world, or between man and woman. At the same time Korpaczewski draws on imagery from classic film posters and shots of these classic film stars. Othová and Korpaczewski share this proximity to film and the blending of storyline on a personal level . On the other hand there is the sharp contrast between black and white photography, the rich language of the grey tones, and the classic medium of paint with its specific coloristic qualities. The exhibition was conceived in close cooperation with both artists, who rather than perceive this gallery space encounter as two solo shows, see it as a mutual dialogue.
