Dirk Brömmel develops sophisticated photographic processes that enable him to present an "objective" record of reality. The resultant combined individual parts of the record create a whole new kind of "super reality". This plan particularly stands out in a series of photographs of giant transport ships that were taken from a bird's-eye view from harbor bridge structures. An image created in this way of reality perceived is for the human eye comparable to images of microstructures made using special scanning techniques. In the latest series, called Villa Tugendhat, the gradual manipulation of photographs captures and enriches the reality of an embedded time lapse. This is accomplished with the simple blending of historical photographs, in which members of the Tugendhat family are depicted in everyday activities, with scanned images of the interiors and exteriors of the now-uninhabited villa. Blending historical and contemporary realities enables Dirk Brömmel "to see the passage of time, and even the things that disappear or change with time." The exhibition is produced in collaboration with the Museum für Konkrete Kunst and includes a catalog.
