Áron Kútvölgyi-Szabó (H)

Áron Kútvölgyi-Szabó was born in 1985 in Budapest, Hungary. Having previously studied Humanities (Art History and Philosophy) for 4 years, he graduated in 2013 from the University of Pécs, Faculty of Music and Visual Arts, Sculpture Department. He lives and works in Budapest.

Áron Kútvölgyi-Szabó’s artistic practice deals with the characteristics of human thinking and the personal mindsets they are embedded in. During the years he examined from different points of views their structure and constructedness, the invisible mechanisms of cognition and remembrance, as well as various misleading phenomena of perception. Recently he has been investigating the doubtfulness of knowledge, specifically the uncertainty of image-based sources and the unconscious effects of cognitive distortions. Besides the general aspects of the topic, lately he has engaged with the symptoms of the Post-truth world and the parallelism of alternative facts and beliefs.

During his stay in Brno, Áron Kútvölgyi-Szabó will experiment further with his main strategy of confronting 2D imagery and their original 3D situations in the framework of his artistic research. With the use of manual and digital techniques, he attempts to point out the defective and deceptive nature images and their role within the context of alternative narratives and post-factual arguments.
