Jakub Šimčík

The research into the migration history of his family led Jakub Šimčik into examining the political background of his own biography in the archives of the security services of former Czechoslovakia. The lecture performance presents all the material collected throughout seven years of work: propaganda films, documents and photographs produced by the state security as well as his own video art.

Jakub Šimčik was born in 1984 in Ostrava of former Czechoslovakia. He has exhibited internationally and is represented in the collections of the State of Saxony and Ivo Wessel. He studied intermedia and photography at the Leipzig school of arts 2009 – 2015, Glasgow School of Art 2008 – 2009 and photo journalism at the Mid Sweden University 2003 – 2006. He is currently doing an artist in residence at the Cité des Internationale des Arts in Paris. In 2017 he was on an artist in residence in Dům Umění Města Brna.
