Pavel Baňka, an individual who moves with great freedom within the Czech art world, is a difficult artist to categorize. One reason for his independent approach can be ascribed to his early success in the late 1980s on the international art scene. The countryside figures as a major theme throughout his work, however, it is not reduced to mere representations of nature. His interest encompasses each of its elements, the things that stand out coalescing layers that are characterized by civilization along with romantic notions of landscapes. The countryside is the foundation of his self-projection, which is apparent in his ongoing works Agrárie and Marginálie. The exhibition commemorates the artist's 60th birthday.
