The outdoor project Mysliveček 4D/ Poster, Space, Play presents twelve posters made for theatre productions of Czech legendary fringe „Goose on a String Theatre“ between 1973–2000. The posters are characterized by an approach to a medium of the poster as a three-dimensional object (he tears, perforates, burns, folds, crumples paper), „white space“ composition, interactivity and minimalism. This makes Boris Mysliveček one of the most original designers in the 70s and 80s within international context.
The project takes place in Brno, in various places in Brno, from 15th June to 11th July. It is organised by The Brno House of Arts and Art Salon.
The Goose on a String Theatre has, ever since its foundation in 1967, been extending the boundaries of theatre in becoming a movement leading civic resistance against the totality on the cultural platform.
Also posters worked as the medium of manifesting artists' anti-totalitarian approach. As it is typical of Czech cultural tradition – in a humorous and sharp and witty way.
The author explains: „Passersby could enjoy adventure and a kind of mystery with my posters. This effect might last even after the show. The envelope on the „20 Minutes with an Angel“ poster was used couple of times as a secret box where people used to leave „confidental“ accounts. It made the communist Big Brother really disconcerted. Likewise the folded arch corner on a poster for “Alice in Wonderland beyond the Mirror“ was a metaphor for a gateway to an underside alternative world.“
The exhibition takes place at several points in Brno:
